Drawing From Msheireb

Twelve artists on a changing neighbourhood.

Msheireb is a neighbourhood rich in memory. This book is about cherishing fragments of that memory; to be shared with future generations.

The name Msheireb means 'Place of Sweet Water'. It was named because of the well, located by the Wadi, around which the community of Msheireb, Doha's first suburb, grew.

Just as the well was a source of refreshment for this neighbourhood in those days, so too has the changing fabric of Msheireb been a source of inspiration for the drawings in this book.

This is the first of Msheireb Properties' books on art and architecture. It springs from a wide-ranging art initiative: the Echo-Memory Project; Sadaa al-theikreyat al-makan.
