Mortlake Wharf

At the heart of the project is a new village heart – Brewery Square – a northern extension of Mortlake Green - which dramatically frames a new view of the River, along Sheen Lane from Mortlake Station. The buildings on either side give a room-like enclosure to the space, forming a strong backdrop of contemporary loft-style architecture which harmonises with the substantial forms of the historic Hotel and the Maltings.

The site is unified by a strong sense of orientation northwards towards to the Thames, and a structure of predominantly East or West facing residential units is created (thus avoiding single-aspect North-facing units). The stepped forms create a rich skyline of active roof terraces, with views to the River and the Green. Blocks are modeled in plan as well as in profile; to optimize views and sunlight.

A thousand homes for a historic brewery site
