Old Doha Regeneration Framework, Doha, Qatar
The Old Doha Regeneration Framework is the first heritage-led regeneration project within the state of Qatar. It proposes renewing the historic streets and buildings of Doha’s city centre – the repair of a distinctive urban fabric, in combination with a new contemporary vernacular for Qatar.
The project encompasses two neighbourhoods, Al Doha Al Jadeeda and Al Ghanem, providing mixed-use development, with a combination of high, medium and low density streets : a balanced social mix.
The site is 10 minutes walk from the Corniche, Old Souk, the Museum of Islamic Art and the National Museum, and minutes by train from the business district of West Bay. It will be a prime tourist destination at the time of the World Cup in 2022, but its primary objective is to create a vibrant community and a long-term legacy of healthy and sustainable urban living.
