Trumpington Local Centre, Cambridge, UK
The aim of the project is to create a vibrant and well framed public space with active edges and a strongly defined civic identity.
The primary design objective to achieve was to create timeless architecture, rooted in tradition but striking and contemporary; creating a strong sense of identity for the heart of the development.
It was integral to the process to use rhythm and grain to form strong relationships with surrounding streets, whilst using architectural accent to create delight and surprise and to start a particular dialogue with context.
All of this combined to achieve a sense of density – and a degree of intensity – reflecting the significance of this space as the heart of Trumpington Meadows.
