BLOCK G, BROADWAY

A multi-faceted block

Block G is an important anchor within the Hendon Waterside masterplan due to its position on the Broadway, the main thoroughfare through the development. As part of phase 5 of the masterplan, this horse shoe shaped block will house 114 flats, of which 86 will be affordable, while its groundfloors will offer community and retail spaces. Its different facades reflect the different characters of roads adjoining it.

RESPONSIVE FACADES

The Broadway and Ravenstone Road which run alongside Block G are at two different levels, we proposed to respond to this in the block’s stepped massing, roof line and two different styles of facade.

The roof line steps down as the block turns the corner on to the Broadway and rises up at the corner with Perryfield Way to form a nine-storey corner marker highlighting an alternative entrance to the development. The lower mass along the Broadway is segmented vertically, created by a building line that pushes forward or pulls back, holding recessed balconies. Whereas the facade facing Ravenstone Road is more horizontal in nature.

The block consists of three buildings connected by a podium garden, which opens to the southeast and links to the green landscaped area along Perryfield Way. The large communal garden in the courtyard also features private gardens, providing direct access for courtyard-level residents. Additionally, each building offers residents a dedicated amenity space in the form of an accessible communal roof.
